Enbois - Exact Change
This project was completed for "Guerrilla Entrepreneurship", an elective I took at OCADU. The ultimate goal of the class was to come up with a marketable product requiring a small investment, and to develop a prototype, and business plan for the company. I came up with the company Enbois (french for "In Wood"), and it's first product, Exact Change. Exact Change is a piggy bank that sorts and dispenses change. Destined to be sold on Etsy, the product differentiates itself by being a conceptual reconfiguration, vs. the largely aesthetic based work seen on Etsy. This conceptual focus is at the core of Enbois' strategy, as is the implementation of ever-more accessible computer driven manufacturing.
The inner-workings of Exact Change are very simple; a grate system sorts the change , and spring-loaded doors allow the desired denomination to be dispensed. I focused on keeping the assembly simple by: minimizing the need for glue, having the laser pilot all holes, and appropriately tolerancing the finger joints, and other mating edges.
This product is still in the prototyping stage. After a few, dimensional, aesthetic, and interaction tweaks, I hope to launch it on Etsy.
