Triumph

This sheet metal lamp structure was produced as part of a furniture and welding class at RISD. I have always been fascinated by welding, and this class really opened my eyes to what can be achieved with traditional metal-working. For this lamp, I wanted to create an organic, yet controlled form. I also wanted to allow for an ambient light, and task light.

This was a fun project that allowed me to develop a good workflow for sheet metal projects. Every step was an adventure; roughing out the form on paper, kraftboard mock-ups and templates, cutting and bending the sheet steel, and finally welding and finishing the piece. I will never look at a sheet-metal sculpture the same way.
